Abstract

This issue deals with important changes that are happening in the overall environment, agriculture sector, energy sector and in rainfall and temperature over space and time in various parts of SE Asia. The first paper explores the economic and environmental sustainability of tenant farming among the Mishing tribe in Majuli, the biggest river island. Second paper deals with the impacts of marble mining activities on local air quality to help to formulate a stringent air quality regulation for sustainable mining practices to mitigate environmental and health impacts. The third one analyses the climate change impact that is challenging due to climate data’s intricate and dynamic nature that used fuzzy rough set theory (FRST) to perform feature selection in the analysis of climatic data to effectively address uncertainty and vagueness in climate data. The fourth paper shows the negative effects of climate change on mangroves and the preservation aspects linked to climate mitigation in the Sundarbans ecosystems. Another one gives overall picture of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that are a prime concern in the energy sector that accounts for a significant GHGs-emission, followed by agriculture, industry, land use change and forestry and waste sector. Yet another paper on Bhutan narrates the impact of digitisation that affects the pillars of Gross National Happiness and shows that the convergence of the digitisation and development to enhance GNH influences all aspects of Bhutanese life including environmental conservation. And finally a paper on the analysis of the data from various taluks to analyze the changes/trends and variability in annual and seasonal rainfall using Sen Slope and Mann-Kendall analysis and identifying the higher mean rainfall and lower mean rainfall zones for the benefit of the policymakers to address climate change impact and water resource management in the region.
